My Latest Natural Hair Pics

Hello! This look is from a 2-strand twist that I rocked for a week or so. I fashioned it into a frohawk to make it extra funky. This style was done to give my hair a break from my hot comb press last week. I enjoyed doing my own hot comb press, but I was told by my parents that I didn't go slow enough. Yes, it puffed up by day 2. So I rocked a straightened blow out. That was a lot of fun! You must know by now that I love my hair big and full. :)

This pic is immediately after the hot comb press. I love it!! Straight hair without the harsh chemicals of relaxers. Yes! I have the best of both worlds and T.O. is very pleased. He missed the initial press due to travel for work, but he will definitely see it for the wedding. I also read the instructions to the hot comb press and you can only do it on the same hair once a month. That's one of the differences from the flat iron.

The prep: On freshly shampooed & deep conditioned hair, I sprayed on some TreSemme heat protectant spray and oiled my scalp. I used a dime size amount of John Freida's thermal serum and then detangled. I applied some Dax pressing oil to the strands and then I blow dried my hair. After heating the comb on the stove (yes, the actual kitchen stove :)) and testing it, I applied more pressing oil and began running the comb through carefully. The entire process took about 2 hours.

I love the length of my mane...it's past my shoulders now. I know that a lot of people are afraid of the heat and the damages it may cause if not done properly. But I remember my grandmother (who was a licensed beautician) keeping our hair healthy and very long by her press and curls. And we "greased" our scalps very often. So, the process doesn't stunt your growth and neither does the grease. Yes, it may be weighed down...but if that's the look you want or less of it, you know what to do. Use less!! :) And the great part is that when you shampoo & condition again, you're back to your afro. Note: My curl pattern was still there!! So have fun experimenting! What works for me may not work for you.

Natural Hair Update

Hi! I know it has been a while since I have posted...my bad. All I can say is that my busyness got the best of me. Prayfully, you are well.

I want to give you a quick update on my Natural hair. It has been 19 months and I am still going strong. I battled last month with the thought of perming...wow, right? Well, of course, I decided against it! I was attempting to please my Bear and he responded to me by saying, "I've seen this way so long, that I have gotten used to the 'Fro." So since he was sooo understanding of my need for Nappturality, I straightened my hair...twice within two weeks! Y'all....let me tell you that it was a MISTAKE. I ended up getting ends clipped and all! This week before my shampoo, my hair was so brittle and fragile that it didn't make any sense. The slightest tug produced 5-6 strands of popped hair. To add insult to injury, my curl pattern is shot! So I had to deep condition to the utmost power and twist her down. Therefore, this week and probably the next will be Turban days. I really miss my pen coil curls... I learned something though, I can rock semi-straight hair, just not for two weeks straight. Well, it's time for dinner and a movie!

Could he not just beat him down? Or better yet, just leave it alone and dismiss himself? Now he's looking at a murder charge for an unfaithful mate. He did not think. It takes two to tangle. This was my look for work today. I truly enjoyed rocking my Kangol (so much fun to wear one)! It has a slightly vintage feel to it...and it adds to my swag. LOL I was asked today by my supervisor whether or not I wore uniforms in my old position. Uh, no, I didn't. She stated that since I started working there two months ago, my outfits and hair changed daily. Like I have some serious personas wanting to show. I had to let her know, this is who I am: Jai B. all day long. I don't believe in being boxed in, hence, that's why I am NATURAL. Everything about me should be unique. Even when it comes to my sanctification: We are "peculiar" people. I don't look or act like the next woman. God made me unique as He did for you. People have to find themselves. I have never been a follower of man's trends, but I began early in life setting my own. This intimidates a lot of people, but understand my goal. My personal duty is to be that leader so others can find their way to Christ and anywhere else they may need to be. Let a sista help you out! I am not boasting myself in no way, shape or form. I am confident that God has given me a gift that will edify Him. So I close with this: To God Be the Glory for all the things He has done!

Protective Moment #1

Hi!! I pray that all is well with you and yours! This past weekend, I had the opportunity to change my look a bit...well, a lot! lol Not only did I do it for me, but for the hubby-to-be. I know that he misses my relaxed locks. After all, that's how I looked when he met me. This wig is ultra long...the tresses touched the base of the small of my back. Yeah... It all began when I was having breakfast at Shoney's and this woman was there with what appeared to be a sew-in weave. The bangs on it was beautifully feathered! I fell in love with the look. I battled for weeks about a sew-in and its cost. My conclusion was spending $40 for a reusable do than spend $150 on a style that would last me only a week because of scalp allergies. Thomas was so speechless with this look, y'all. I want to believe that he got a little teary eyed. lol He was happy. But I had to let him know that this "wigging it out" is not becoming me. It was for a day and maybe a day in the future. I made sure that he got enough photos...I love you, baby! But things have changed!! That includes my hair! I have crossed over into a new realm of Napptuality and I am pleased with the outcome. I have embraced my Natural (affectionately called Jai) and I am still learning her. It's been a year and 5 months now and I am still in love with my Natural hair. What can I say? How are you feeling on your Natural journey? Are you still excited?

Good Day! I am here just wondering what to do with my desire to go to beauty school. Driving around the city a few days ago, I saw the school that I always wanted to attend right down the street from me. Yeah, so, I wonder if they still have night classes there. If so, more than likely your girl will be in the number. But, the next kicker would be: Do they teach Natural African-American hair?? I guess I will find all of this out when I call. Just wondering...

I am rocking a "pressed" blow-out right now, I wonder what will happen if I put gel on the crown to smooth. Will it actually lay flat when it doesn't curly?? I wonder... All I can do is try it! I'll keep you posted.

These photos are from one of my biggest blow-outs since I've been on my journey (1 yr and 3 months)! And one photo is from my last press with the hot comb (for roots) and the InStyler. To God be the Glory because He has done great things with my hair. Prayer works, people!! My length check before my clipping of the ends were 1/4 inch past my shoulders. After the clipping, it touches my shoulders (stretched). My bangs touch the tip of my nose and my sides are past my earlobes.

Picking Up an Old Hobby

Today, I picked up an old hobby of vlogging once again. Will I keep up with it this time around? I would like to think so. I shampooed my hair today and began twisting the crown of my blowout. So here comes Mister..."Ugh, you should put flatter twists in the top because those don't look right from here." Seriously??? Change a style that I like...where they do that at?? (I know the grammar is bad on that last phrase...that's how it sounds, lol) Anywho, my hair stayed the way that I like it...

Well, his parents are supposed to come over tonight for dinner. I want to go to church which begin in 30 minutes... Wow...come on now! Would it be rude for me to eat now and leave before they get here?? I want to get my praise on! Being two hrs away from my home church makes me miss our weekly services. Oh, well...I am definitely gonna have to put it down on Sunday.

I Made It A Week!

Hi!! I have been living here in Columbia now for a full week!! I made it!! And despite of the negativity surrounding me about this area, I feel good about it. Why? Because I know where my Help comes from...I know who Jesus is! I don't live in fear of what man can do, because God can do worse/better! Amen! So I am enjoying myself and this new church that I am attending. Since Sunday's sermon, I have been blessed already (yesterday) with a reduction in rent!! To God be the Glory!

I have finally moved from Hampton County...again! Yes, I am sooo excited to be experiencing a new city and a new job within my current agency. With a new look (well, my year plus old Natural), a new job and a new place to live, I am ready to embark on whatever God has for me. I have to get back into my budgeting...yeah, seriously, I love to spend $$ when I shouldn't. I am such an impulse shopper when it comes to things that I think I need RIGHT NOW and I don't need them in actuality. So, I am pulling the reins on that behaviour. Gotta do it!!

It's been a while since I actually wrote on my blog...sigh! However, it didn't stop me from posting awesome photos of my Natural hairstyles! I love to keep you updated and with some simple ideas as much as I can. On this post, I had to make "lemonade" from this lemon ProStyler by Conair Infiniti. Well, it's not a lemon...it just didn't do what the advertising said. But what does other than the Word? Ok, then. So my outcome was like using my Andis flat iron... puffy after 20 minutes. I am sooo disappointed! It promised the results of the InStyler from tv. After using my friend's InStyler, I feel in love at first straighten. So I read ratings from all over and the ProStyler users said that the results were the same or even better. Blah!!! At $46.50, I should've paid the now $84 for the InStyler. No. 1 reason for not initially purchasing the InStyler? The majority of the users claimed the item broke after several uses. So why waste my time, right? Well, I should have took my chances...sigh.... So after whining for a bit, my fiance (T.O.) asked, "Why are you worrying yourself? You're Natural, just wear your hair!" This is from someone who wants my hair straight!! What??? So my "lemonade" is sweet...this sista (me) is rocking a fabulous blow out with twists at the crown. I will post a pic soon.

2011 is finally here!! If you don't know, it's my birthday month also (January 9th). Oh, I can't wait...yes, I can! I don't want to rush life or the fact I have to go to work tomorrow. I pray that all of you had a wonderful and safe entrance of the New Year and that you will continue to be prosperous and blessed.

Well, to update you on my Natural, she is doing great! I have a nice length and I pray it continues to grow. I know it will. My bangs (after 1 yr on Dec. 5th) touches my mid nose and my nape touches the top of my shoulder. This is after 3-month clipping of ends and shedding. I have not done any protective styles for this winter air but 2-strand twists. I usually rock them for 1 week and then twist-out for 4-7 days. I have extended my shampooing to a week and a half depending on build up. But not more than one a week. My Natural stylist told me that my hair was "over-proteined" (my word...lol) and that I should not deep condition weekly. *sigh* Therefore, my hair is in a healing stage right now. So ladies manage your mane carefully and remember in some instances, less is more. Oh, one more thing about my mane...my flat ironing that few months ago did in fact stretch my curls. My feelings were confused about the outcome. I wanted tight spiral coils again and then I didn't. This stretched way was easier to detangle and I have these "fairy" knots?! I don't know... What I do know? I wanted to straighten again, but I am moving slow towards it until I a get a quality flat iron and ionic blow dryer. Question: My stylist's daughter is Natural and always has been. Even as a teen, shouldn't her hair be outstanding and full? My mane is almost a long as hers and I just started a year ago...just asking... It just makes me take good care of my hair and keep "junk" out of it.

Ok, I have talked enough for now...lol

Before I close, did I tell you that Mister & I closed our April 2011 wedding date? Ok, he put it on our anniversary (Dec. 25, 2011) so it would be easier for him to remember.?? Then I received a new update: If everything continue to line up, it will still be on April 16, 2011. Phew! Can it just be in October? I think I'm putting that in motion...besides I haven't planned a SINGLE thing! I may go dress shopping in February or March. We will see...stay tuned!

Yes, the photo that you see was my pressed Natural this week. Of course, I tried it myself and had my famous blown afro. So, I visited my Natural stylist, Erica, and she hooked me up without hesitation. I paid her an extra $10 because it looked so good. The look lasted for 2 1/2 days and then I pressed it again. To my amazement, I didn't suffer any curl loss or anything. My hair felt more fuller than before. I enjoyed my hair...it was fun! Everyone thought it was a wig. The question everyone wants the answer to is: What are you doing next week with your hair? Let's see...it's Thanksgiving week and I want my fiance to be happy. Maybe, pressed??? Btw, he totally LOVEDDDDDDDDD my pressed hair. You all know that he loves it straight. (Read earlier posts) I was glad to please him and my parents. Yes, I told Dad that his princess was back for the moment. It feels good to be Natural and able to rock my tresses as I feel without chemicals. I am so glad that I am Natural!!! From 'fros to two-strand twists to twistouts to a pressed look is awesome. Everyone is happy!

Yesterday after my shampoo & conditioner, I decided to treat my fiance to something a little different. I know he wants me to go back to my locs, BUT, I would like to keep things the way it is (fros and twists). Therefore, I daydreamed about my banana clip and BAM! The outcome was better than I expected simply because I can pull my hair back! Yes! Finally, now, Lord, please continue to bless my hair with growth and health, in Jesus Name, Amen! I had fun with this style and I am still rocking it today. My man did not like it too much because I have my hair changing ALL the time. His actual statement: "I got used to seeing you with side-swept bangs and hair tucked behind your ear. And then you cut it all off. Then you were loccing it. Now you have it big and all stuck in the 70's era. Don't talk to me about your hair, because my say-so doesn't matter. Talk to your Twitter friends." Do you believe that?? Wow....... Anywho, Mom loves this look and I believe it's her fav (according to my sis).

Before I go, I was in Walmart last night and two of the workers commented on this look. One was an older Caucasian woman and the other a young, transitioning Sister. Respectively, the compliments were, "You look nice" and "How long have you been Natural? I like your hair and I am debating whether to Big Chop or just transition." For the latter, I spent time giving her answers to her questions and it felt great! I love this life of mine, you all. I make a difference as a Christian and Natural Sister. You gotta love it! To God be the glory!

This is the photo that I have been trying to upload to my Twitter page for days! My Droid Eris has connection problems to my Twitter photo uploads...totally sad! Therefore, I must send it this way... It's more than one way to skin a cat! At this stage in my Natural journey (8 months Natural), I am excited to be trying new hairstyles and getting cheers or jeers on them. As I stated before, different people like different looks on me. The majority loved when I was loccing because they just love the versatility of a neat loc style. My "new heights" fro is loved because it's a bold, "I not scared to rock big hair" look!

It's All About Changes

Hello! I have made a drastic change...well, not that drastic. You know that I decided to loc my hair about 3 1/2 months ago, right? Ok, well, on my last salon visit (this past Friday) my natural stylist (Erica) asked me was I stressing about something? Ok... I was like maybe a few things had me in a twist. I asked her why she asked me such a question and she stated that my locs were unravelling which concerned her. Wow!!! I knew they were not fully locced yet, but unravelling?? So, she retwisted my locs and sent me on my way with instructions of no shampoos for a month. I get one every 2 weeks. On Saturday morning, I looked in the mirror at my lovely locs and noticed the issue at hand and immediately decided on Operation Takeout of the Locs. My mom helped me take my hair loose and we only had to cut about 8 locs that were actually locced. That is very minimal compared to the entire head being in the loccing process. The dead hair was not alot at all! :) I am so excited and grateful that God has blessed me enough that I did not have to chop all of my glory off once again. I must be wise... My fiance loves the locs on me. His words exactly, "Your locs brought out your features more and I love that!" My parents are welcoming their "princess" back since I stated I wanted a straight look for a few days. My co-workers love my locs better than my blowout. How can I make everyone happy to include myself? I have decided to float between both Natural worlds. A few weeks of locs or two-strand twists and a few weeks of a curly fro, blow out or flat iron. I love all the Natural looks on me... Hey, what can they say? At least I am chemical free and has been since October 2009. Yeah! I have been totally natural since December 5, 2009. I am sooo excited!

Update: I have officially made my mind up... I am loccing my hair! It's been 7 weeks and I got my first shampoo (yes, wild when I am used to every 2 days shampoos) on last Saturday. No scalp rub, though :(... But at least my locs are fresh and I can really see my budding. *screaming* I am sooo excited. My last perm was October 2009 and my BC was December 5, 2009. So my Natural journey is still in full effect and I am loving it! It's been a little over 6 months and I did not have locs in mind. I wanted a big, big 'fro! But after careful research and evaluation of my Sis-in-law-to-be (times 2), my decision to loc was an easy one. They are touching my ear now and the compliments are bananas! I love my hair either way, but my fiance and other close love ones love this look the best. Gotta keep the man happy since I BC'ed without his approval... :) Love you, Babe! lol

First and foremost, shout-outs to God and to my followers (those linked in and those that continue to stop by and read my blog): Thank you! :)

Well, my Natural hair journey is still going strong (almost 6 months)...yay!! It has, however, taken a turn that I didn't see coming. Everyone knows that I wanted a Diana Ross/Macy Gray size afro. My hair texture is the springy coils and it appeared to be going in the direction that I dreamed. However, my soon-to-be sister-in-law asked me (3 weeks ago) if I wanted my hair done. Hair done?? I had no clue as to what I would want other than flat twists on a blow-out. She recommended comb coils/twists and I loved it. Everyone loves them (minus a few ppl)! I mean, the transformation caused me to see things differently. Jai with locs... I made these funky crochet earrings to match the look and BAM!!! Even my fiance loves (well, likes) the new look more than the 'fro. He loves length and since I BC'ed in December 09, he has not been happy. He wants my hair on my shoulders like it used to be. Well, he can actually see the length (5 inches) with my new twists and he just smiles. Awwww... I love making him happy. He even touched my hair...a first without instruction! Wow! It's been 3 wks and I saw growth on my most first re-twist. I am excited as my hair sprouts into its destiny. With that being said, I decided to dread my hair. I don't believe that I will change my mind... Oh, before I forget, I didn't see my ringlets on my re-twist...? So I am wondering what would my hair look like if I decided not to dread? Inquiring minds want to know.

In other news, Dad preached an awesome sermon tonight (Praise Tabernacle) and praise/worship by myself and Lisa went well. To God be the Glory. If it touches only one person, you have walked in your purpose.

My mister and I took photos last week and they are very beautiful. Not because I'm in it...who am I kidding? LOL Let me quit, I am not vain! But I have oodles of confidence and self-esteem! If I can figure out how to post one, I will so you can see them.

Well, it's been a minute...again, my bad! Many shout-outs to my faithful readers and followers!

My napptural hair is changing!! I am so clueless right now on what to do with it! Therefore, I am just letting it do what it do...grow! I now have approximately 4 inches and it has been almost five months (May 5th) since my BC. I have these very tight kinky coils that resemble the spring in a retractable ink pen. Yeah! No comb goes near this head now! Btw, I also have straight strands coming in...say what?? Who knows? But this is a journey, right? Indeed, I am just in the passenger seat with my natural tresses driving!

Well, time to deep conditioner this natural hair!

Color Issues...

It's been a while...my bad! I still love ya, though...lol! Now, down to the business! I have been busy trying to find a different look for my fro. I decided to color it a shade of red/voilet today. My natural hair color is dark red/brown. So you know what happened, right? It has not made a dramatic difference! My hair is this dark brown--no red/voilet! Augh! Anywho, it's semi-permanent meaning it will be out in a couple of weeks. Maybe I will go lighter... Who knows? Maybe it's trying to tell me something like "leave color where it is"...

In other news, I went to my first Poetry show/contest. It was held at Huger's in Charleston, SC. The atmosphere was very nice and I definitely plan to go again. I was supposed to perform (my sis-n-law-to-be signed me up) but I declined because I wanted to feel out the spot. Well, once I heard the other poets, I knew that I could shut it down! However, my procrastination made me miss my time to shine. Btw, one of the contests were an Erotic Poetry Contest...enough said. If you know me personally, you know about my book. I would have won that too! For sho'! A dude won the cash prize--named 25 to Life. One newbie dropped out after the first round...he had guts though. More than I had...at the moment! lol

Shedding?

Tonight I shampooed my natural, beautiful tresses and found a sink full of strands (like 100--maybe normal though after detangling)! I have noticed for the past week that I have been shedding some serious strands. I am indeed confused... Maybe I need to drink more water (I only drink about a bottle and a half daily) or truly "spritz" my hair daily. This is my regime every morning: Add to my semi-moist hair my shea butter mixture and maybe S-Curl moisturizer. And then pick it out. I am wondering should I cut out the S-curl for now...? The reason I use it is because it really softens my hair. But I have also noticed that since I have been using shea butter, my hair has a soft-like texture. Ok, my challenge this week, being that it's Monday, is to just use the shea butter mixture daily. Can I do it?

Craving a Blowout

I really enjoyed my blowout last week! I know that I keep saying that phrase, but I really did. I am going to research how often I can do one. Anywho, today, my twa received a dose of S-Curl moisturizer because I wanted to enjoy some shine. I dc'ed my hair last night and it felt sooo good. I layered shea butter and my olive oil concoction with Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner and tied it down to dry over night. I did not need to detangle this morning--wow! So, that's the reason for letting it stay kinky curly. But since Mister loves it tall and blown out, depending on how often I can do it, that will probably be how I rock it. I do a lot for him, you think? I am truly the peacemaker. :)

Working A Blow Out

These pictures are of my very first blow out from yesterday. I had fun rocking it and my mister loved it. Yeah! He couldn't believe the height of my hair...I tried to tell him I wasn't bald-headed (lol)! I was glad to see so many Naturals at his boss's church last night. He loves my afro without twists and accessories, so I pleased him by the blow out without adornments. What's a girl to do, right? Gotta keep him happy and me too! He is just waiting for it to reach my shoulders at least...he doesn't have long more (I pray). My hair is growing at a fast rate...I just hope that I don't hit a slump of no growth...wow, I would freak out!

My maintenance update: I started using shea butter in my hair as a moisturizer in the mornings. I add a mixture of natural oils, to include olive oil and shea butter oil, to the shea butter and work it in. I still use the Infusium 23 to moisten my locks before I brush them. Therefore, I haven't really locked in a regime... I will get there.

Hair Choices

I am debating on which style to wear my hair in for my interview tomorrow. I know that it's late and I should have this decided, but, I don't. I have a choice of my natural twa or a short wig. I am really leaning towards being natural because this is how the potential employer will see me on a daily (work) basis.

Oh, I must tell you about last night... Well, my mister and I went to this step show/drumline at a local high school. I wore my hair in a mini frohawk and he flipped. He went back to his "it's an afro, wear an afro" speech. I spoke up this time...yes, I did! I told him, "yeah, it's an afro and it's to be worn in different ways. Whether it's twisted, frohawked, loose, or in a headband, it's getting some decor!" That's what we do... who wants plain Jane hair? I am a Natural and I stand out--along with my "stand out" hair!

I did these this morning after my shampoo & deep conditioning. I am still using the Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner daily, however, you should only use it on clean hair. So should I go back to pooing my hair daily just to use this leave-in? Idk... Anywho, until I get some shea butter, I went back to the S-Curl moisturizer and Gel'N for a soft, shiny afro. I have also found some great recipes for making my very own shea butter. I am after shine, People!

What A Day

Wow, what else can I say? My sister, auntie and I kept thinking that today was Tuesday... I don't know what's up with that! To add to that craziness, my dad was admitted to the hospital for chest pains. Of course, he doesn't want to be there--who does?

I am attempting a new routine with my hair for my three month anniversary. My hair has grown 2 inches since my BC. WOW!!! Thank God! I am soo grateful. I was reading this afro haircare site and it stated to try Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner/treatment since my type 4a hair is so dry. I mean even with S-curl moisturizer and gel, my hair still drys out. It does, however, maintain a softness--a dry softness. :} So I am going to re-shampoo my hair (Saturday is my hair day), condition, and then put the Infusium 23 in. I will try it for a week without the other product (S-curl). I may still add the gel... We will see... I will probably do a vid for youtube showing the results. Wait, I can add vid here as well...

Today, marks 3 months (post BC) that I have been Natural!!! My last perm was in October 2009 and my BC was done on December 5, 2009. I am excited as I begin to embark into personal unchartered territories! I was comtemplating microbraids, but because of my scalp sensitivity, I am going with a wet & wavy wig. I must be wise...I don't want to lose my hair. My Natural sister, Tee, has officially started her locs :))...she got them in today and I was shocked that she called me so soon. For some reason, I figured that they would take all day. Maybe she'll post a pic on her blog (http://http://themrsh.me/ ).

Well, I must prepare my beads and finished jewelry because I have a date with my mother-in-law-elect. She beads as well, but she doesn't sell hers. She can't seem to part with them. I remember when I was that way...but now? Yes, give me the dollars! What's good, people? I must respond to my sister's blog titled "Unprofessional" (read it on her blog http://themrsh.me/2010/03/unprofessional/). When she called me with this foolishness, I was in total shock! I mean, I knew that my beloved parents didn't like our TWAs, but my goodness! So, as the rebellious child that I am, I SHALL ROCK MY NATURAL TWA TO THE FULLEST! Ya heard? Come on, "rethink our lifestyle"??? Wow... I commented on her blog and I am saying it again here. As an avid reader of both Black Enterprise and Inc, Ebony, Essence, Jet, Sister 2 Sister, etc., there are many Natural sisters in prominent areas of the business world. And yes, as we Naturals know, they are running things. And for my Dad to say that I am stuck because of my hair?? Uh, I've been on my state job for almost 14 years and my fro is only 3 months old...so, how does my hair have me stuck? What A Weekend

Wow, this weekend was one to remind me of my youthful days. I actually stayed out until the next day! The funny part is, something told me to pack for overnight...especially for my hair care! Well, I didn't listen needless to say. It all started with a delivery for LOVB (http://lovboutique.com) in the city of Florence. My man's sister ordered 8 crocheted hats for her Natural locs...yes, she's representing LOVB! That's what's up! Ok, so when we sistas get together, what happens? A LOT! We had all kinds of fun to include cooking, Partini and the local flea market. The majority of us are Naturals, so we had a lot to share and learn from each other. It was fun. Then on the way back, I stopped to my Mister's place (can't travel without seeing him). I am not glad that I missed church today :( .... I clearly had no intentions of doing so, but there are no excuses other than I was fast asleep and hated to face a 2 hour drive @ 3am. Yeah...Thanks ladies for the hospitality!

Being Real With You

Can I be real with you? I love being a Natural diva and just expressing my true self as I learn to love my "new" self. I found out that I am not defined by my personality and looks alone, but also by my hair. Believe it or not, it seems as though some people are intimidated by my Natural locs. Yes, I know that I have an empowering appearance....that's because I am empowered. I know who I am--I am the definition of a strong, Black woman with the world and heavens to gain. I am not one to kick someone while they're down, but lend a helping hand instead. I love being JaiB. I love being EXTRAordinary. I love being Natural (in hair, body and spirit). Haters........

We had a great time in revival tonight! The first night is usually to setting point for the rest of the week---we can only go higher in the Lord! I am excited because being in service and playing the drums helped me get rid of the somethings that attached itself to me. To God be the glory. I found out tonight that my baby doesn't like when I wear headbands. Um, how often do I wear them? Almost daily? Yeah, and now he's not feeling the look. Tell me how you really feel... Well, it's about what I'm feeling and I love it. I love this look simply because it puts me THIS much closer to having my afro puff. It looks like one from the front, right? But my hair in the back is not up...just puffed! Therefore, it's my "FauxPuff." I believe that I just made that term up...it sounds good and need a patent. lol Maybe I will use it in my tweets and blogs more often.

Wow, the poet in me is still alive! I started writing more often...maybe because of my fiance... Did I tell you that he wrote me a two page poem entitled "Love Is" for Valentine's Day. Yes, he did well and his penmanship is pretty nice. Actually, I am very impressed with that part. Okay, enough about that...let me tie down my TWA for tonight and I will see you all soon.

Rockin' LOVB

Yesterday, I made this feather haircomb for my TWA. I will more than likely put it on the Lily of the Valley Boutique website (http://lovboutique.com/). But until then, if you like it like that, just send me a comment and we can make arrangements. I am modeling the haircomb and a closeup is below. I seed beaded a "button" to match the brown feathers.

I have decided to return to shampooing my 'fro every 2-3 days instead of once a week. I can't stand filthy hair...especially when I use moisturizer or gel daily. And my sister and I agree that we see more growth when we shampoo more often. So that trumps dirty hair, you think?

Also, TG's (my Mister) "E" ring came back. It's funny how Tungsten sizes run...my baby's a size 10 and in Tungsten, you should go 2 sizes up. Well, now it's too large. I told him that he's keeping it this time. We just have to get a ring guard. I mean, even the 11 would have been too comfy. Maybe when his fingers get hot/warm from the summer heat, it should fit better. Boy, it looks great on his hand. He was like, "It's different..." He should know by now that I am indeed "different". Why be like everyone else. Btw, we are DEFINITELY not like everyone else...my baby has an engagement ring...lol! Wow... How did it come about? He felt that since I had a ring, he wanted one. He wanted to show people that he was spoken for...engaged. Question: Why when a woman tells her guy friends that she's engaged, they do what they can for one last chance with her. But when a man tells his girl friends that he's engaged, they get cussed out. What's up with that?

Hi! I do apologize for my tardiness--I had to prepare and deliver a mini sermon for tonight (Feb. 19th). Btw, as a minister, we take time to consecrate ourselves to deliver God's Words and not our own. Amen? Amen! That explains my absence. The Lord showed up and showed out...the message was a success indeed. To God be the glory!

The past two days has been pretty good...my Mister thinks that I am getting sick more often since we got engaged. Uh, I don't think so but anywho... We know that some "things" tend to make us sick *winking*. I left a message on his phone yesterday that wasn't quite like JaiB, so he deleted it and asked me what was really going on with me. I blamed it on stress. Who wouldn't? LOL

What To Do When Your Cell Dies

Today started off great and then a speed bump knocked me out of balance for a bit. The worst thing happened to a female that travels a lot...my cell went straight crazy! After work, I did my usual by turning on my phone and checking my voicemail. However, today, that wasn't happening. My cell blacked out and then came back on. After careful observation, I noticed that it turned itself on and off every 5 seconds. Criminals! To add insult to injury, Verizon, could only order a replacement that takes 3 days to get here (they didn't have my phone in stock). I asked the nice lady could I just get an equivalent--but no, because of the warranty, I am still stuck with this type of phone. I mean what if this happens to the new one? Augh! Anywho, after my visit with Mister, who gave me a Coach handbag for Vday (Yeah!!), and my whining about the fact that I am hurt without my phone, I went to Walmart and bought a prepaid. That was a wise decision for these 3 days. So who's happy? I AM! Just think--if the incident happens again, at least I won't have to buy a secondary phone. Just add minutes! However, I'll miss my smartphone capabilities, but at least I can talk...gracious! I feel better now...

Oh, did I mention that my baby gave me a Coach handbag? *giggling*

My Line Up

What's going on? I know that I missed a day...my bad! To catch up: Absolutely nothing happened yesterday. Wait--I stayed in bed until 1pm, took a bath and got back in bed. I stayed there until 6pm. And then got up for church in Beaufort. Okay.....

Today, work was BUSY! There was so much inmate mail to open...yeah... Afterwards, I visited my big bro and gave my 15 yr old neice a good talk. Grown kids, WOW! The funny part is, she got me confused with her mom by being smart at the mouth. Not me, lil girl! We got beat down back in the day if we even thought about talking back to adults. Say what? And sucking teeth? Aw, man! Needless to say, she got checked with the quickness. On a lighter note, my bro gave me my first line up in front of my new TWA. Of course, I got a tape up too. lol No fuzzy neck here. Check out the pic...it looks fly. I was tripping a bit when I saw my ringlets along the edge dropping, but it's cool and cute. I will have fun rocking this tomorrow.

My Valentine

Aww, today (or yesterday, clearly it's 1:46a on the 15th) was interesting... It began with me thinking that I wasn't going to enjoy my first Valentine's Day with my Mister. Lights were still out in his neighborhood from the snow storm and things were just tight. Excuses were coming in left and right on how this should have been an awesome day for us. But there is a God! I had a great time in church...an awesome Hour Of Power! I drummed my heart out with extreme passion. I then came home and got all dolled up once again. I made sure that my TWA was off the chain. Once the fam said that everyone was going to my fav restaurant, Cheddar's, I was excited. This is where I wanted to be with Mister initially. And to share it with loved ones? Ok, so I called Mister to see what the deal really was...were we going to have a Valentine's day? He stated yes at 2:26p. After debating what to wear, yes, we dress in the same colors--no, it's not lame for us--the time stamp was 3:36p. Needless to say, we ate alone at Cheddar's. By the time we got to Savannah, the fam had eaten and left the building.

My day was successful...I love my Mister. It ended with him meeting my grandmother for the first time and experiencing our first debate/argument. Grandma told him that I am mean, violent and will tell him that he can't have a life after marriage. That info was not all together true, but you can't pull in words once they are out. He really didn't believe me...how well does my grandmom REALLY know me? Not at all! Do I see her all the time? NO! Mister said that he doesn't know me as of today. I mean, I just wanted him out of my truck! He was just contradicting himself constantly. "When is our wedding happening?" to "I want a long engagement." What??? Which is it? *screaming* So I told him that I will give him EXACTLY what he's looking for...lol *smirk*. My night totally closed with him saying that "I want my Jacquetta back." I mean he started this fuss...enough about that. But I love him still.

Doing What I Do

I am having a dry hair day... It's been two months and eight days since my BC. I initially started out by shampooing my hair every day to every three days. My routine was T-Tree oil, shea butter oil and EVOO. Last month, (my soon-to-be) mother-in-law, who is also a Natural diva, suggested that I put moisturizers in my hair. When she put the products in my hair, I saw an immediate change. Two days later, it was ultra soft, but residue comes off. She suggested shampooing no more than once a week... It's hard but I did it. Now, I can't get my hair back right without putting tons of gel or moisturizer in it. Aughh! I'll figure something out. Btw, she stated that I should be able to comb through my ringlets. Pick, yes. Comb, uh, not as easy. Again, I'll figure something out.

Well, today is Valentine's Eve and I intended on celebrating with my Mister early since tomorrow will be so hectic. Anywho, of course my plans were squashed because of indecisiveness on his part. It's now 6:55p and I am still being asked, "Do you want to go tonight or tomorrow?" ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Okay, then...I am home. But you know what? I am about to head out anyway--without him. Gotta make a phone call...

The snow has been beautiful (a whole 5 inches) and it has left a mess in my yard! It's like my yard has adopted the phrase, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." The snow has been good. The water and slush left behind is bad. The ugly? Well, that's trying not to bog down and kick up so much mud on my vehicle. I mean who's washing it for me in this cold weather? Mister?

Today, I entertained myself by taking a compatibility test (I posted the result in the sidebar). My fiance and I are 85% compatible, why not 100%? Is anyone 100% compatible with their partner? I wonder...

It is very cold right now and we are expecting at least 4 inches of snow in SC. My Mister is singing a sad song, "Tonight is going to be cold and boring." I asked why should it be boring? It is what you make it. I deeply feel as if he wants to hang out with the fellas. He stated that he was invited to the bar, but he wasn't sure. It was as if he wanted me to okay the event. Not even going to happen! For the past two Fridays, I have been at my sister's place helping her with her newborn baby. Therefore, he had the opportunity to bond with his boys like a Boys' Night Out kind of thing. Certainly, he didn't think this would be EVERY Friday night?? Ok, well, this sista firmly believes in "starting as you mean to go." I mean, can I have a Friday night with my man? I thought so...holla!

Wedding Thoughts

Today, I was entertaining myself on The Knot...I made an avatar of my inner bride. See...?

Of course, she is not any where close to what I want to look like on my day. I want my Natural curls to be grown out and funky and an awesome "color" wedding gown. My "color" is a secret that only my maid of honor knows *hint lil sis*. :) At least the scenery is correct! Destination wedding all the way!!

Today was going good until my SUV shut off this morning! Yeah! Evidently, when I put fuel in yesterday and the pump was moving in slow mo', water traveled in with the gas. So, that caused this crazy shaking. This morning, it was worse. Of course, as a Daddy's Girl, I called him for instructions on what to do to remedy the situation: Flush it out with 93 fuel or gas treatment. I was sooo embarrassed at the gas station...it's like people could hear my truck making these noises.

Last, but not least, I did not wear a hat-but I found a headband that I had in storage (the dresser) with these neat little teeth that wouldn't work with my permed hair. Well, totally worked in my TWA. That's what's up! Even though it was cold, I was cute. Check me out at the top of this blog.

Shaking this Cold

I am seriously trying to "shake" this cold that I have and this "cold" weather outside. A lot of people down here in the South has started calling their areas the "Windy City". Yes, I love the fact that there wasn't any frost this morning, but the wind! It was my first day back to work and I should have stayed at home wrapped up and in bed. WOW! I really need to think about wrapping up my head...but it will mess up my fro. So right now, hats are out! Wait, what's more important, right? I know that cold weather is bad for my Natural tresses and my head...so protection is necessary. But I seriously do not feel like picking it out when I get to work...so looks win for now!

Windy Nights

After the rain today, it was so beautiful and comfortable. But tonight, however, the wind has taken over and I fear that the fierceness of the wind will be a challenge tomorrow at work. Definitely, I must wear a pair of pants. The last thing needed to complete any day at the prison is my dress flying away on a yard full of adult male inmates. Understand why I need the pants??

My day was well spent as I was recovering from this mystery illness. I had the symptoms of the Nyquil commercial: achy, sneezy, coughing, stuffy head and need to rest! It surprised me yesterday at work; therefore, I took off at noon and was in bed ever since. My Mister even surprised me with a visit. Aww! Let me give his correct label: my FIANCE...so cute! He stated that with my new haircut and haircare regimen, it's part of the reason that I got sick in the first place. (I did my Big Chop on Dec. 5, 2009 and is on my Natural hair journey) Anywho, with his visit, I missed Bible Study tonight. No, not intentionally, I just didn't get up to move. Shame on me! The funny thing is, I tried to justify to myself the reason for not going was because I'm recovering from this mysterious illness.

I am feeling ok--not my best, though. I have to return to work tomorrow (in a good mood) because I will be there by myself. *shaking my head* We'll see.... Night!
